An Awful Lot (2021)

An Awful Lot contains songs about life in the American South over lush chamber orchestration punctuated by bursts of synth and guitar. The songs range from saccharine synth-pop (“Pen to Paper,” “Best Shot”) to jagged dance-rock (“Jamestown,” “An Awful Lot”) to confessional acoustic ballads (“‘21,” “Transported”) and are interwoven with spoken word samples that form a dialogue with Wentzel’s earnest lyricism.
